The first that I saw in the cinema.
ReplyDeleteMe too, in London - then broke 3 umbrellas on the way home!
ReplyDeleteChip Schreck has the same Boston accent as the 1943 Batman.
ReplyDeleteThere's something more comic-book about the look of this one, compared to the first Burton. Block colours, large shapes. Somewhere between the first Burton Batman and Dick Tracy.
ReplyDeleteBig pin stripes.
DeleteThe Circus gang take-down, although epically murderous, remained the best comic to screen adaptation for years...
ReplyDeleteThe huge statues all over Gotham are a curious thing. Somewhere between cold-war Russia and 'Labrynth'.
ReplyDeleteMore passive agressive Alfred, on the video phone. "No, don't mind me, you just drive around sulking, I'll do the bloody ironing!"
ReplyDeleteMax's stripes are getting wider. He'll just be wearing a grey suit soon.
ReplyDeleteI've always been an arguer against those that say that Walken is the same in all of his roles. He isn't helping me here though. Max Shreck is Max Zorin...simple as that.
ReplyDeleteMichelle Pfeiffer is so, so good in this. Not a fan of the film but she is great.
ReplyDeleteCigarette holder, nice little nod to Burgess Meredith.
ReplyDeleteMuch better fighting here, but Burton generally can't end it without Bats killing his foes.
ReplyDeletePfeiffer's bullwhip work is awesomely impressive.
ReplyDeleteMORE passive agressive Alfred..."Yes I'll clear up your strumpets again."
ReplyDeleteNever underestimate the electrical ingenuity of the circus-folk!
ReplyDeleteSwitching mob for politics and Vale for villainess and there's virtually nothing here - not a mention of Wayne's motivation after it was solved int eh alst one...
ReplyDeleteMuch more inter-fighting dialogue here though - like earlier Batman comics.
ReplyDeletePenguin grabs Batmobile for second time this viewing. Problem with the character - far more effective as a villain than you’d think.
ReplyDeleteThe campaign posters are a nice nod to the comic Penguin.
ReplyDeleteFirst time Batman battles villain with tech – well since rehydrating the security council, but at least that wasn’t a one-off.
ReplyDeleteAnd he fouled that up a bit.
DeleteMasquerade ball's are a key component Batman films - not equivocal to car chases in Bond films, that would be the car chases...
ReplyDeletePfeiffer plays unhinged brilliantly.
ReplyDeleteYer... Catwoman’s slipped into psychosis. She needed to as her plot had pretty much ended.
ReplyDeletePENGUINS!! THOUSANDS OF THEM!!
ReplyDeleteThe Joker could just operate Axis chemicals undetected, the Penguin has the abandoned zoo. If Gotham wants to boost morale, open the zoo again!
ReplyDelete2,000 penguins, a poodle and a monkey. Worst...zoo...ever!
DeleteIt does have a giant fake rib cage!
DeleteAw, Penguin demise still one of the saddest bits in film... Another two villains bite the dust – along with a Batmobile, Batplane and Batboat... Not bad for the Keaton tenure.
ReplyDeleteAt least two of those penguins are ewoks.
